Book Description
On August 20, 1998, restaurant co-owners Phyllis Hinz and Lamont Mackay sold their businesses, their houses, and most of their belongings to hit the road. Traveling the continent in a 40-foot motor home and offering business advice to small restaurant owners, they became known as the Cooking Ladies. In THE COOKING LADIES RECIPES FROM THE ROAD, Phyllis and Lamont introduce the people, the places, and the food theyve encountered on their travels. With help from folks like Steve Watson, a graying biker who sells 12-inch cinnamon buns in the Yukon, Canada, and an Amish group that serves taco salad to RV owners passing through Goshen, Indiana, the Cooking Ladies share more than 100 recipes and regional specialties discovered on their travels throughout North America. A treat for RVers, armchair travelers, and anyone with an appetite for adventure, RECIPES FROM THE ROAD proves that good eats and good company are just a bend in the road away.

Reader Reviews
After watching "The Cooking Ladies" quickly prepare a delicious-looking veggie pasta dish along with a unique version of a chicken Caesar salad entrée during a WGN News' lunchtime cooking segment, I felt compelled to get their cookbook. Good move on my part! Love, love it! EACH and EVERY recipe has a color photograph of the finished product as well as an entertaining description of the inspirational origin of the dish. What a concept for us visual-craving cookbook readers! The eclectic recipes come from their travels to Europe and over most of the North American continent, with a just a touch of Caribbean, Asian, and South American influence. I found many healthy, low fat, low carb dishes along with scrumptiously decadent, calorie-laden recipes for special occasions. The travel stories were a unexpected bonus. I enjoyed reading about some of the exotic locales that most of us will never visit, and the interesting people the spunky duo have encountered over the years. Get this colorful cookbook if you want more than just a cup of this and a pinch of that! The recipes are intriguing, yet not intimidating. Lots of fun, too!
