PreSchool-Grade 1-Bing, a pig, and Chutney, an elephant, are best friends. Chutney loves to dance in her tutu, while her pal likes to cook and bake. One day they take off for a picnic far to the north. The elephant takes over the controls of the streetcar when they discover its driver fast asleep, and on the way they pick up other friends-Cow, Giraffe, Zebra, Kangaroo, and Rooster. When the picnic basket is accidentally tossed out the window and squashed under the wheels, they pull it out and eat on the spot, as snow begins to fall. Despite the fact that they never make it to Moosonee, it turns out to be a very good day after all. The story reads as if it could have been written by a child. Derivative of other picture books about two best friends, it is neither clever nor original. Whimsical watercolors are on a par with the story.
