Appetite for Books: Professional Cookbook Reviews
The books appealing attitude -that food should please us, not create performance anxiety- makes it easy to jump in.
Book Description
The next installment in the Basics series tackles baking in a lively, approachable manner. Hot on the heels of the successful Basic cooking, Basic baking shows a whole new generation of home cooks just how fun baking can be â" and it's not as hard to do as one might think! The first part of Basic baking covers fundamental techniques and ingredients that are staples in the Basic kitchen. All the ingredients are easy to find and the techniques are easy to master â" cornerstones of the Basic approach to cooking. The remaining chapters are divided into categories, each drawing upon the knowledge learned previously. Inside you'll find recipes for cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, bars, strudels and muffins, as well as savory snacks like crackers, meat pies, crusty breads and pizza. Every recipe features a companion photo, and the book is loaded with photos of people enjoying their time baking in the kitchen. Once you see the lively graphics and feel the easy, down-to-earth "Basic" tone, you'll want to join the party!
Reader Reviews
This is one of my favorite cookbooks. I've had it for a few years and am always pleased with the way the recipes turn out. Beautiful pictures and accessible degrees of difficulty. Try Basic Parties and Basic Cooking, both part of the same series.
