This automatic, self-cleaning litter box system uses disposable no-mess litter cartridges pre-loaded with Fresh Step brand crystals. Simply replace the cartridge about once a month for each cat and the litter box takes care of the rest. Fresh Step brand crystal litter offers unbeatable odor control and absorbs wetness on contact. Just open the pre-packaged litter cartridge, slide the cartridge into the automatic litter box, and store the cartridge cover under the litter tray for later disposal. One litter cartridge filled with Fresh Step litter lasts as long as 30 pounds of the leading clay litter. Recommended litter-cartridge replacement varies by the number of cats using the litter box, however. For one cat, replace the cartridge every 20 to 30 days; for two cats replace it every 10 to 15 days. After the cat uses the litter box, the Fresh Step brand crystal litter immediately starts to absorb liquid waste and dry out solid waste. Twenty minutes after the cat leaves the box, the unit will automatically and quietly start to rake and clean the litter. Solid waste is sealed in the covered waste trap, and urine is absorbed by the crystals. The timer resets if the cat re-enters the box during the countdown cycle, and the rake will stop if it encounters a large object in the box. For indoor use only, the unit features an "on/off" power button and operates on a standard wall outlet. The automatic litter box measures 26 by 19 by 7 inches, and each cartridge measures 22 by 14-1/2 by 2-1/2 inches (refills sold separately).
