Fully forged from single pieces of German high-carbon stainless steel, the five kitchen knives in this set provide a cook with all important cutting blades, and the set's six 4-1/2-inch steak knives allow dinner guests to slice steaks, chops, and roasts into bite-size pieces. (The steak knives have 2-1/2 inches of serrated edge at the tips.) The kitchen knives are an 8-inch chef's knife with a broad, curved blade for rocking through a chopping task; an 8-inch slicing knife for roasts, poultry, and ham; an 8-inch bread knife for slicing crusty loaves; a 6-inch utility knife for making sandwiches and slicing vegetables and fruits; and a 4-1/2-inch paring knife for vegetables and fruits. Rounding out the set are a 10-inch steel for keeping the knife blades aligned, a 6-inch carving fork, sturdy kitchen shears, and an 11-slot block made of maple that stores all the kitchen knives, the steel, the shears, and four of the steak knives. Knife blades are tapered from spine to edge and from heel to tip, with bolsters providing balance and safety.
