Fully forged from single pieces of German high-carbon stainless steel, the four kitchen knives in this set provide a cook with all the essential blades. The knives are an 8-inch chef's knife with a broad, curved blade for rocking through a chopping or mincing task as well as for all-purpose cutting; a 6-inch utility knife for making sandwiches, slicing meats, vegetables, and large fruits, and peeling melons; a 5-inch boning knife with a short, narrow blade and pointed tip for removing bones from poultry and meats neatly and safely; and a 4-1/2-inch paring knife for cleaning, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables. The blades are tapered from spine to edge and from heel to tip, with bolsters providing balance and safety. Additional balance and strength come from full tangs running through the handles, which are formed of hygienic, fiberglass-reinforced poly that won't crack, split, or chip and are attached to the tangs with the traditional three rivets. Rounding out the set are a 10-inch steel for keeping the knife blades aligned and an 11-slot block made of maple that stores all four knives as well as the steel and that has extra slots for other knives and for kitchen shears.
